Johannesburg - A 44-year-old motor biker was severely injured on Friday when he collided with an electric cable hanging over a road, ER24 said.
Scene Safety Officer Werner Vermaak said the man was driving his motorbike down Beyers Naude Drive when he collided with the cable hanging about a metre from the ground in the middle of the road.
He was flung from his bike on to the tar.
"A bystander on the scene explained that someone allegedly tried to steal the electric cable next to the road and the loose end fell on to the road surface," Vermaak said.
"Paramedics from ER24 that arrived first on the scene, found the man lying in the road in severe pain. He sustained multiple injuries and had to be stabilised on the scene before he was rushed off to a nearby hospital for further medical attention," he said.
The cable was removed.
