Johannesburg - A Gauteng court has heard how a bishop from the Eden Zionist Church in Katlehong, Ekurhuleni befriended a 9-year-old girl who loved him like a father, before brutally mutilating her, allegedly while she was still alive.

The Star reported that Monde Tokwe, 48, was told by a traditional healer that to boost his church’s dwindling congregation, he needed to mix herbs with the human tissue from a girl.

The girl, Yonelwa Sikweyiya, was the daughter of Tokwe’s girlfriend.

Tokwe is accused of slicing off the girl’s genitals with the help of his wife.

The court heard earlier in the week that Yonelwa Sikweyiya was probably still alive when her face and genitals were slashed as this was the case in most ritual killings.

The girl was last seen with Tokwe, whom she was said to love dearly and look up to as a father figure. Tokwe apparently showered the child with gifts and attention.

Sikweyiya was last seen entering the house of the bishop.

Tokwe later confessed to the crime and implicated his wife, Nolufefe Magasane, 50. Another man and the traditional healer were also arrested to face murder charges.
