Blast at Springs factory kills 3
Johannesburg - Three people were killed and five were injured in a factory explosion in Springs, outside Johannesburg, on Thursday morning, emergency services said.
"We received a call of a fire, and on arrival found that there had been an explosion," said spokesperson Roggers Mamaila.
The blast at the company Sincor, in the suburb of Struisbult, appeared to be related to argon gas, but further details were not yet known.
Netcare 911 spokesperson Nick Dollman said they were told people had been attending their morning meeting.
There was a sudden blast which threw some of the people outside the building.
Three people died on the scene as a result of shrapnel and the force of the blast.
There was no fire.
The injured were taken to the Netcare N17 Hospital and to Parklands Hospital.
