Pietermaritzburg - The case against SA Police Service VIP protection unit Constable Hlanganani Nxumalo, 28, was postponed in the Pietermaritzburg Regional Court on Friday to April 28.
He faces eight charges of attempted murder after he allegedly shot at a vehicle and caused eight people to be injured in a resultant crash.
Nxumalo's counsel will be handed statements made to investigators on April 28.
He originally appeared in a Camperdown District Court in December, but the case was transferred to the Pietermaritzburg Regional Court.
Nxumalo was initially refused bail, but on appeal, Judge Isaac Madondo granted him bail of R3 500.
On Friday he was again smartly dressed in a dark suit. His appearance lasted fewer than five minutes.
Meanwhile the Democratic Alliance has complained to the Independent Complaints Directorate about a Pietermaritzburg mayoral bodyguard allegedly spitting in a woman motorist's face, after forcing her to stop because she did not get out of their way as quickly enough.
Some of the guard's spittle ended up in her eye when he spat at her through a partially open window, and she is receiving antiretroviral treatment.
She has also laid charges against the bodyguards at the Camperdown Magistrate's Court.
The guards were fetching Pietermaritzburg mayor Zanele Hlatswayo from the Durban airport when the incident took place on March 18.
