Bodies in North West morgue for 6 months

2011-10-25 13:28

Brits - Nine bodies from an old age home in Brits, North West, were kept at a mortuary for over six months, provincial Cosatu leaders said on Monday.

"We call on the families of the deceased to open criminal cases against the North West department of social development, women, children and persons with disabilities," Congress of SA Trade Unions provincial secretary Solly Phetoe said.

He said the department - which ran the Sonop Old Age Home - had failed to help the home in burying the bodies. Phetoe said police were to investigate the cause of the delay.

The old age home declined to comment and referred enquiries to the department. Comment from the department could not immediately be obtained.
