Cape Town – Police have confirmed that a body was discovered floating in the harbour area of V&A Waterfront.

V&A Waterfront communications manager Annemie Liebenberg said the body was discovered on Monday afternoon by security personnel.

“We immediately handed the matter over to the SAPS,” Liebenberg told News24.

She could not give any details on the identity of the body or what the cause of death could have been.

“The police are still investigating,” she said. “We’ll probably know more later today or early tomorrow,” she said.

Police spokesperson November Philander, who was on his way to the scene, confirmed reports of the discovery but could not provide more details.

Members of the South African Police Force and port of entry officials are at the scene.
