Cape Town - A post-mortem will probably be done at the Salt River mortuary on Monday to determine the identity of a partly decomposed body that was found on Table Mountain.
Members of Wilderness Search and Rescue used a helicopter to remove the body
from the India Water ravine in the mountain on Saturday.
Captain Randall Stoffels, a police spokesperson, said the man seemed to have
been between 30 and 40 years old.
He was wearing a black tracksuit.
Stoffels said cable car staff found the body in the ravine at about 11:45 while
they were heading for the top of the mountain.
They immediately informed Wilderness Search and Rescue.
A helicopter was sent to the scene and a rescuer was lowered into the ravine to retrieve the body.
Stoffels said it seemed as if the body had been in the ravine for about a week.
"A post-mortem will be done to identify the man and to determine the cause
of his death.
The police will also check their records to find out if anyone had
been reported missing," Stoffels said.
