Cape Town - The body of an unknown man, which was believed to have been lying on Table Mountain for three weeks, was discovered on Sunday morning.
A hiker found the body at about 09:30 at First Waterfall ravine and notified the authorities.
"At this stage no other details are known about the man," said Claremont police spokesperson Captain Angie Latchmann.
Notices along the route warn that this part is dangerous.
"If a place has danger warnings, it can mean that it is very slippery, rocky and or doesn't have good hiking trails," said Table Mountain National
Park spokesperson Merle Collins.
"The place where the body was found isn't very accessible."
Collins said the body had already started decomposing and it was speculated that it had been lying there for three weeks.
Rescue workers could not retrieve the body on Sunday and would try again on Monday.
"The weather wasn't suitable," said Keri Davids, spokesperson of the metro emergency services.
