Johannesburg - Authorities are trying to determine whether the female skeleton found under a swimming pool on the East Rand might be that of one of paedophile Gert van Rooyen's victims, IOL reports.

Van Rooyen was linked to the disappearance of at least six girls in the 1980s, whose bodies were never found.
He committed suicide to evade arrest in 1990.

According to the report, the pool was built during the time when Van Rooyen was involved in a construction company that installed swimming pools.

IOL added that forensic scientist David Klatzow had joined the police in their investigation. The skeleton, found alongside a green dress, brass ring and black knitted tights, was found during renovations.

They were unearthed a year ago and while police say they believe they belong to an adult, Klatzow disagrees.

He said it could be that of a young teenager.

Klatzow said some of the bones had what appeared to be saw marks.

"Why would you bury a body under a swimming pool anyway? I don’t believe those marks would have been made by a spade during digging,” he added.
