Body rots in hospital room

Johannesburg - A man's decomposing body was found locked in a consulting room at the St Elizabeth regional hospital in Mthatha, an official for the province's health department said on Thursday.

"The MEC for health Phumulo Masualle is demanding answers after a decomposed body of a man was found locked up in a consulting room in Lusikisiki on December 29," said spokesperson Sizwe Kuphelo.

The 60-year-old man arrived at the hospital on Christmas day. His body was discovered on Tuesday due to a bad smell as it had decomposed.

Masualle demanded a detailed report about how the man died and why his body was only discovered four days later.

"The MEC has promised that no stones will be left unturned and that the department would take action against those implicated," said Kuphelo.
