Bogus abortion doctor denied bail
Johannesburg - A man accused of rape and performing an illegal abortion was denied bail in the Protea Magistrate's Court in Soweto on Monday, police said.
Ugandan Alex Kizito would be back in court again on March 16, Warrant Officer Kay Makhubela said.
Kizito allegedly claimed to be a doctor and carried out an abortion on a 21-year-old woman. The woman's mother apparently helped with the abortion by cutting the child's umbilical cord.
He allegedly forced the young woman to have sex with him before the abortion. The woman and her daughter were both charged with concealment of birth, and were previously granted bail of R1 000 each.
The women would appear with Kizito in court in March.
