Bogus cop gang - police making inroads
Johannesburg - Two men, believed to be part of a "bogus policeman" gang, were arrested in Diepsloot on Monday after they were found with police bullet proofs vests, a torch and boots, police said.
Warrant officer Daniel Mavimbela said the men, aged 24 and 28, were linked to a house robbery and believed to be part of a group of about six bogus policemen.
"According to witnesses, the suspects are said to have conducted bogus raids in Diepsloot," said Mavimbela.
"During a crime analysis session by Diepsloot police, it emerged that another victim opened a case of house robbery, which allegedly took place in Diepsloot extension two during the early hours of Sunday morning.
"During this incident, the assailants allegedly identified themselves as police, entered the victim's shack by force, produced a rifle and robbed the victims of cash and a bag full of clothes."
According to reports, one of the suspects was in full police uniform.
The suspects will be charged with unlawful possession of police uniforms and house robbery.
They will appear in the Atteridgeville Magistrate's Court "soon".
