Bomb hoax 'to test police reaction time'

2012-03-26 07:21

Cape Town - A man was arrested in Woodstock on Sunday after he phoned police to say there was a bomb outside the police station, Western Cape police said.

"We immediately dispatched our explosives dog unit to investigate and sweep the area," Warrant Officer November Filander said.

"About 40 minutes later the police station and the area around it was declared safe."

He said a case docket was opened and the phone number was traced.

The 43-year-old man was arrested at Douglas Place in Woodstock for making a false call.

"The suspect explained that he wanted to test the police's reaction time."

The man would appear in the Cape Town Magistrate's Court soon.

Well he is not only testing the reaction time, but now he is going to test the legal system, hope they throw the book at him. He should get the Darwin award, IDIOT!!!

Selwyn, in a country where murderers get R500 bail, any sort of punishment in this instance would be to much. the legal system is a joke. 40 minutes, if he had of told them the bomb was at a school we would still be waiting for someone to show up.

Funny how fast (..."About 40 minutes later the police station and the area around it was declared safe.") the police would react when their own lives are at risk, but takes hours to respond to a rape case or a murder case...! Maybe the test isnt to see how fast they can react, but rather, "What and when" matters most to the Police. Still stupid of the man from Woodstock to do such a thing!

I'm with Andre on this yes it was stupid of the guy.but he made his point in a number of ways one of the big ones being, that the cops react only to protect themselves otherwise when its your family being mugged, kidnapped, raped, killed they'll arrive on scene in the next hour or so,if they come at all. And all you'll get is "HOW,sorry,we had to fill up with petrol and take our snack break on the way" touchee for the old gesyer for making them sweat they needed it as far as i'm concerned they need to be on their toes more often/ 24/7 All police stations should still go through drills/simulations just like that tho...

    Hahaha! Wow that was dumb...

  • Lunga - 2012-03-26 09:08

Surely, if you're going to prank the cops, you do not use a number that can be traced back to you... #PrankCalling 101

Anyone with half a brain knows that you never say the word bomb, even as a joke 'cos the dark stuff is going to hit the fan in a big way. Anus.
