Cape Town - Police and emergency services rushed to the scene of a bomb scare at Somerset Mall in Somerset West on Thursday, paramedics and police said.
The bomb scare was made by telephone, said Inspector Billy Jones. He said an information kiosk received the call and staff immediately alerted mall management and the police.
"Sniffer dogs were used to find the bomb but nothing has been found yet," said Jones early on Thursday afternoon.
"At 11:30 this morning ER24 received the call notifying them about the bomb scare. When they arrived at the mall, police and search and rescue were already there evacuating people inside the mall," said ER24 spokesperson Derrick Banks.
Banks said it was a smooth evacuation and no injuries were reported.
News24 heard that a man had been walking around the mall with bombs strapped to his body, but Banks and Jones denied these claims.
