Bomb scare at Eskom headquarters

2012-01-20 14:54

Johannesburg - Eskom's Megawatt Park headquarters has been evacuated after a bomb threat was made at about noon on Friday.

Eskom spokesperson Hilary Joffe told News24 the building was evacuated shortly afterwards.

"I can confirm there has been a bomb scare, which was phoned in at about noon.

"The police are on the scene."

Joffe said she could not give any more details at this stage.

An Eskom employee who wanted to remain anonymous told News24 all staff were told to move outside because of a bomb threat.

"The police came in and are searching the building as we stand outside in the street."

    whahahahahahahaha

      Jono - 2012-01-20 15:02

They are safe, not enough power at ESKOM to detonate it.

      ubhejane - 2012-01-20 15:51

I have to laugh about this. I know it is serious but I can't help thinking that it is funny they haven't been blown up yet considering the bonuses these "executives" get and what we have to pay for their gross mismanagement of the country's power supply.

      Corne - 2012-01-20 15:52

      @nitro - you a-hole

      Corne - 2012-01-20 15:55

      RE - 2012-01-20 16:15

maybe malema was in the building????

      ubhejane - 2012-01-20 16:40

@RE No RE, Malema was with Floyd at some exotic Indian Island Resort, having a massage at the Spa to rest their tired bodies. Besides, Floyd will never allow his beloved leader to be in harms way ever! They are destined to grow old together.

@ubhejane, almost like: @RE No RE, Napoleon was with Squeeler at some exotic Indian Island Resort, having a massage at the Spa to rest their tired bodies. Besides, Squeeler will never allow his beloved leader to be in harms way ever! They are destined to grow old together.

    oh good guyfox

  • Aaron - 2012-01-20 15:02

Doubt it will make too much difference to productivity. Megawatt Park on a Friday afternoon is usually full of tumbleweed anyway... floors full of empty desks.

  • Hendrik - 2012-01-20 15:04

Someone really cheesed off about being dismissed or not happy with his/her electricity account.

  • Fredster - 2012-01-20 15:05

  • ludlowdj - 2012-01-20 15:20

A bit off colour, but isn't Eishkom a legitimate target? I'm sure the international court would declare it a service to humanity.

      StarStruck - 2012-01-20 15:32

      yawn..

  • Lee-Anne - 2012-01-20 15:37

If u cannot make an educated comment, please do not comment at all. Bomb threats are not a joke! No matter where it is!

      StarStruck - 2012-01-20 15:41

Relax please it's Friday. All the employees are waiting in the street, so they are all still in one piece.

      Corne - 2012-01-20 15:54

      @Lee-ann - stop being an a-hole

Eskom are not the only occupants of Megawatt Park. SARS have offices there too. I seriously thought they were yanking our chain when they said they couldn't issue our tax clearance certificate because of a bomb scare......... Sounded more like a "we don't feel like doing it on a Friday afternoon" excuse........

      En - 2012-01-20 15:55

That's cause you would stay in your office during a bomb scare? How brave of you.

      SergeD69 - 2012-01-21 12:36

We can do without SARS !!!

  • paullombard17 - 2012-01-20 15:46

  • SarelJBotha - 2012-01-20 16:45

Seems like bombscares are the in thing these days....SANRAL beware of the 3rd wors force, or even the njama brigade. This circus never seizes to amaze me...and many others I believe.

  • David - 2012-01-20 16:58

    On a Friday afternoon?

  • Alexander - 2012-01-20 17:37

I was there for a tender briefing. Initially they said it was a fire drill, but once outside the building we learnt it was a bomb threat. The evacuation was done in a neat and orderly manner, I wonder what panic might have been caused if they told everyone it was a bomb. The big negative was that we all had to wait outside the building for almost 3 hours - and were not allowed to leave the premises. At least they have nice grounds to walk around in. Apparently this is the first time they have had a scare of this magnitude. Considering how many people were affected by this it was handled well - even though there was nothing to drink in the heat.

      SergeD69 - 2012-01-21 12:35

Yeah, nice grounds. Even some antelope there. All thanx to the high tariffs.
