2012-06-23 19:43

Cape Town - People have been allowed back into Lanseria Airport in Johannesburg after a bomb disposal unit confirmed that an unattended bag did not contain any explosive devices, Gauteng police said on Saturday.

Captain Katlego Mogale told News24 however that a “white substance” was found inside the bag and has been sent to the laboratory for testing. She said cigarettes, dried dates and clothing were also in the bag.

The airport’s terminal was evacuated after an unattended bag was found in the airport. People were left waiting in the airport’s parking lot while the police’s bomb disposal unit and dog unit checked the scene.

Mogale said the incident hadn’t caused too much of a disruption to flights.

indeed there was a bomb threat.we were there.the whole building and workers were evacuated.very impressed by the restaurant staff being efficient and having the credit card machine in parking lot taking payments from all the patrons that had to rush out of the restaurant.

I am sure it was the right procedure for the resturant staff to gather payments from the patrons that has been in the resturant, for surely it was not their first bomb scare.

Why do people always leave their bags unattented at the airports?People are just careless, now the building had to be evacuated and everybody had to start panicking bcos of one careless person.Imagine if there's an elderly people that happen to break their legs while leaving the building in a hurry for something that's not even there.Let us wake up,people must just always have their bags on sight.please South Africans

Just one reason never to use fly by night airports. Better to endure the traveller unfriendly acsa airports were you'll pay for your flights with your baggage.
