Nelspruit - Visitors wanting to explore the Kruger National Park this holiday season have been urged to book in advance to avoid being turned away at the gates.
Park executive director Bandile Mkhize said on Monday that the park had a visitor quota at each of its nine gates.
"The gate quotas are there for good reason and we have to maintain them in order to safeguard the natural beauty of the Kruger National Park and to ensure that the experience is not spoiled for all," he said.
Daily gate quotas vary between 350 and 750 people a gate. If the quota is reached, the gates are closed to new visitors.
The Reconciliation Day weekend, Christmas Day and New Year's Day are expected to be particularly busy times.
Bookings can be done by contacting KNP central reservations on 012 428 9111 or by e-mail to reservations@sanparks.org
