Durban - Police on Wednesday declined to comment on the contents of an affidavit submitted by a club bouncer who claimed the ex daughter-in-law of Minority Front leader Amichand Rajbansi begged him to kill her.
Tandree, 32, the ex-wife of Rajbansi's son Vimal, was discovered in the bedroom of her Monmouth Road house by members of her family early on Sunday, November 30. A murder docket was subsequently opened and the Serious and Violent Crimes Unit is investigating.
A Durban newspaper on Wednesday quoted bouncer OJ Fourie as saying Tandree had called him 40 times asking him to kill her so a R10m insurance policy on her life would be paid out. Fourie said Tandree initially asked to be shot in the head but later said she should be strangled so her face could be
identified. She also planned to have her ex-husband blamed for the murder.
Tandree was found tied to her bed with the same rope also wound around her neck. Pathologist Reggie Perumal, who observed the post-mortem for the Tandree family, said the scene was unlike anything he had seen before.
Fourie claimed Tandree had offered him her wedding ring, a watch and a bracelet in return for killing her. He said she called him twice the day she died.
Superintendent Vishnu Naidoo confirmed that police took a statement from Fourie but would not discuss its contents.
"Despite what is contained in a newspaper article today we will not divulge the contents of the affidavit made to us since it may form part of evidence in any subsequent criminal
proceedings. Also, it is imperative for us not to give a blow-by-blow account of our investigation as this is likely jeopardise the investigation," he said.
Naidoo said the result of the post-mortem was that Tandree's death was consistent with strangulation. "It was agreed in principle by all parties that formed part of the post-mortem that no information other than that death was by strangulation, would be released."
