Port Elizabeth - A patron at a well-known East London night club is fighting for his life after allegedly being assaulted so badly by bouncers that doctors are not sure whether he will recover from his injuries.
Chad Frara, 37, is in intensive care at Frere Hospital with bleeding on the brain. Doctors also had to drain blood from his lungs.
"We are waiting for a second opinion from another neurosurgeon, because it seems as if there is no longer any brain activity. The doctors are preparing us for the worst - they don't think he is going to survive," said Frara's sister, Lauren Perry.
On Saturday evening Frara and a female friend went to Numbers dance club at The Hub in Beacon Bay. At about 02:00 they started arguing.
Hit with elbow
"His friend said the next moment the bouncers were upon him. They dragged Chad from the club. When they got outside, they really laid into him," Perry said.
Police said he was apparently hit with an elbow, whereupon he fell backwards and banged his head hard on the ground. Blood apparently streamed from his nose, mouth and ears.
Superintendent Mtati Tana, a police spokesperson, said they were still investigating the exact cause of the fight.
"We are still trying to find witnesses and will also get statements from the bouncers who were on duty that night."
Daryn Mildenhall, the manager at Numbers, could not be reached for comment at the time of going to press.
