Johannesburg - An elderly woman drowned in a dam near Paarl on Tuesday, paramedics said.
Paramedics found the woman floating in a dam along the road between Paarl and Newtown at about 09:30, ER24 spokesperson Vanessa Jackson said in a statement.
"They managed to get her out of the water, but sadly she had drowned and paramedics declared her deceased," she said.
An investigation will be conducted into how the woman drowned.
Jackson said two boys in Randburg, near Johannesburg, nearly drowned on Tuesday morning.
The children, ages 4 and 7, were rescued from a pool by their 10-year-old brother, Jackson said.
"It is not clear as to the circumstances surrounding the incident," she said.
"The boys were both fully alert, although slightly lethargic, and it appeared that they had only inhaled and swallowed the water."
They were taken to Coronation Hospital and are in a stable condition.
