Johannesburg - A 3-year-old boy drowned in a swimming pool in Randparkrif on Sunday afternoon, Johannesburg emergency services said.

"It looks like the boy accidentally fell into an uncovered swimming pool," spokesperson Robert Mulaudzi said.

The boy was confirmed dead after resuscitation efforts were unsuccessful, Mulaudzi said.

"We therefore would like to advise home owners to make sure that their swimming pools are covered with at least a safety net and... a secured fence around the pool with a locked gate to avoid drowning incidents," he said.
