Johannesburg - A five-year-old boy drowned in a swimming pool in Weltevredenpark, in Johannesburg on Saturday, paramedics said.
"The boy was found at the bottom of the pool by people who lived in the townhouse complex where he was from," said ER24 spokesperson Werner Vermaak.
He said the boy was then taken out of the pool and to the front of the complex gate and paramedics were called.
"When we arrived, we found the boy lying on the pavement and someone was giving him CPR... paramedics then took over and performed CPR for a further 40 minutes."
He was then taken to hospital to be put on life support, but was not breathing and was pronounced dead on the scene.
"A bystander said the boy told his parents that he was going to play on the jungle gym next to the pool area...we are not sure how he got into the pool," Vermaak said.
