Boy killed in Gauteng crash

2012-08-11 07:57
Johannesburg - A 2-year-old boy was killed and his 7year-old sister sustained multiple injuries when a car collided with a truck on the N12 near Lenasia, south of Johannesburg, paramedics said on Saturday.

ER 24 spokesperson Werner Vermaak said when paramedics arrived at the scene on Friday night, the parents told them to attend to their children.

"There was nothing that paramedics could do for the little boy and he was declared dead on the scene," he said.

"The little girl was stabilised on the scene and transported per ambulance to a nearby hospital.

The parents were also treated on the scene for moderate injuries before being transported to hospital."

Vermaak said one of the adults explained that a truck collided with them from behind. The car was crumpled at the back and the back seats were pushed against the front seats, he added.

He said both the children were sitting in the back of the car at the time of the collision.

"Paramedics could not locate the truck or its driver on the scene. The exact cause of the incident will be investigated," said Vermaak.
