Boy mutilated in Soweto

2011-12-23 15:57

Johannesburg - An 11-year-old boy was abducted and mutilated in Soweto on Friday, said Gauteng police.

The boy, from Dobsonville, was taken near Doornkop at about 09:00 by an unknown man, said Captain Mpande Khoza.

The man took him to a railway line in Midway where his left ear and penis were cut off.

The boy was left by the railway line until he was later discovered by Metrorail employees, who contacted police.

Khoza said he was taken to Moroka police station and then transported to Chris Hani Baragwanath Hospital where he was receiving treatment, and his father was notified.

The mother was in KwaZulu Natal following the death of a family member.

Police believe the incident to be muti-related.

A case of attempted murder has been opened.

When will it ever stop, daily we read of rapes and murders in this country....Zuma thinks that the death penalty will not be a deterrent, I think it needs to be reinstated just for rapists and murderers.

      Sifiso - 2011-12-23 17:53

But what if you get accused of a murder you didn't commit then you get executed. The example I have given you has happened before and it can certainly happen again if the death penalty were reinstated. Another problem with it is the simple fact that when you execute someone who kills people you become like them ie when you kill a killer you also become a killer. This is why d.penalty is not considered progressive.

      Jeffrey - 2011-12-23 18:04

Well the death penalty sure deters those who get hanged.

      infijar.ken - 2011-12-24 19:10

Jeffrey, that is one of the stupidest statements I've ever read. Sifiso, you are right. Also State sanctioned murder becomes a tool for State sponsored terrorism! Oh, did that ever happen in SA? Surely not in this modern State!

  • Shirley - 2011-12-23 16:12

What kind of barbaric savage does this to another human being????????????? Mr President you need to step up and start taking control of the brutal crime in S.A.!!!!!!Until you start giving the punishment to fit the crime human life in theis countru =000000!!!!!

      Chum Scrubber - 2011-12-23 16:34

Mr President needs to start condemning the majorities belief in witchcraft, but that would not be very populist of him. Discarding these rubbish beliefs will help far more than slating what damage christianity has done to the country. Think of the poor albinos in Uganda - its incredibly damaging, this clinging to bad things in the name of "culture". Thank god we moved on from our witch burning, witchcraft fearing days in Europe.

Whats the difference? A rhino horn, a boy's penis, 5 wives. We are still back in the 17 th age. No progress has been made, despite old age homes, orphanages and Christianity!

      Ben - 2011-12-23 16:24

Yes, if only civilisation had been mentioned in that speech.

  • Dylan Mugabe - 2011-12-23 16:22

Must have been the Christians Zuma was talking about.

  • Chum Scrubber - 2011-12-23 16:22

If ever there was a "culture" worthy of discarding, it is the belief in witchcraft. Clinging to a "culture" for the sake of resisting positive change is the reason for revolting crimes like this. The kids life is ruined. I think its time to burn Sangomas at the stake!

      Chum Scrubber - 2011-12-23 18:58

Sifiso, as far as I know, Sangoma's practice witchcraft. Inyanga's on the other hand, are traditional doctors. They are herbalists who use indigenous plant parts in medicinal concoctions - of which many have gained credibility in terms of healing. The medicines of Inyanga's are being investigated scientifically - and there is even thought of approving them by medical aids. Sangoma's throw bones, chant to spirits, go into convulsions - they are the okes collecting child body parts, vulture heads, etc - they are witch's as far as I understand. Conclusion - hang onto good culture like traditional medicine's of Izinyanga - but reject the evil backward rubbish of Sangoma's, that result in children being hunted for body parts, etc.

      Chum Scrubber - 2011-12-23 19:15

Ok, I've read the Wikipedia page Sifiso. They fail to mention Izinyanga, and from my time in KZN there is a distinct difference. If it isn't the Sangoma's asking for child body parts, who is it? I still believe it is the Sangoma's. People approach them for help with certain issues, and they are the ones prescribing "muti" containing animal parts, human parts, whatever - to exorcise the demons. It is the belief in witchcraft that causes this, and Sangoma's are kept in business by this belief. Izinyanga (not mentioned in the Wiki page) are the herbalists. I think the wiki page has it's facts half right, but hey, I'm no genius. I lived in a place where the Sangoma's used to do initiation. They would apparently enter this lake, go under water for days, and then re emerge, alive. Sounds like witch stuff to me. Oh, and they would copulate with goats - nothing nice about this lot as far as I'm concerned.

      Chum Scrubber - 2011-12-23 20:03

I think thats the problem then, the Sangoma's start abusing whatever they're meant to be doing. The bottom line still is, its a very negative thing for a nation to cling to a belief that is destructive, or potentially destructive. The people in power, if they have any common sense, should be encouraging the people to stop believing in this nonsense. But they won't, for fear of antagonising their voter base. That is the sad part. Instead of singing "kill the tokolshe" they choose to sing "kill the boer", as it goes down better in political terms. If only the people that led really cared about the future, and not just power ... but they don't, so a small boy is penisless today. Sick.

  • Irene - 2011-12-23 17:02

    Viva African culture, viva!

  • Lynn - 2011-12-23 18:11

This is SICK, CRUEL AND INHUMAN. How are we supposed to live with this. That poor boy. His life is ruined and for what? When are people going to stop this.

  • Joseph - 2011-12-23 18:45

I love African culture but i hate this part of Africanism.

  • alexinass - 2011-12-23 19:17

@leonard, can"t u see? this is witch craft not tradition, you fool

      Chum Scrubber - 2011-12-23 20:07

Its part of tradition to believe in witchcraft - thats the problem that needs sorting out. So yes, it IS part of tradition - like it or not.

  • Dave - 2011-12-23 20:32

you can take them out the jungle , but you can never take the jungle out of them . savage natives ,,

  • TheWatcher - 2011-12-23 23:02

How can you do that to a kid? I don't care what the reasons are this in unacceptable. People like this should be hung, drawn and quartered (look it up if you don't know what it is).

  • fragtion - 2011-12-26 10:38

Of course Zuma won't do squat about this. The kid was probably mutilated for some muti FOR anti-Christian Zuma himself, so that his personal witchdoctor can make an efficient spiritual phonecall to Zuma's ancestors, or the ancestors of one of his 3000 wives. Welcome to SA folks :-)

  • Sharon - 2012-01-01 23:53
