Brave Marco has R10 000 day

Pretoria - It's official! Marco, a whippet-great Dane cross is the bravest dog in the country - and he was crowned as such by the Veterinary Society on Tuesday.
Marco gracefully accepted the title of Super Pet and the prize money of R10 000 he won for risking his life to protect his owners.
After several altercations with burglars and thieves, he had to undergo reconstructive surgery and was still in splints when he received the award.
Marco saved the lives of Theo Carlson, his wife, Carol, and their son, Gary, when a group of armed men attacked them at their house in Greenside, Johannesburg.
The robbers took to their heels when Marco attacked them. He cornered them on the veranda while the Carlsons called for help.
One of the robbers shot Marco in the jaw and in the left paw.
Although Marco now has a steel plate in his jaw, it has done nothing to diminish his ferocious bark.
The Carlsons were elated by the award.
"We have always treated him well, but now he is spoilt rotten," said Carlson.
