Johannesburg - A new chairperson has been appointed in the disciplinary hearing of suspended prosecutor Glynnis Breytenbach, according to a report on Monday.
Advocate Selby Mbenenge of the Eastern Cape will chair the hearing of Breytenbach, who was suspended as regional head of the National Prosecuting Authority's commercial crime unit in April.
Beeld newspaper quoted NPA spokesperson Bulelwa Makeke as saying a new date for the hearing had not been set yet.
The NPA said it suspended Breytenbach for failing to act impartially in her investigation of a dispute between ICT and Sishen/Kumba Iron Ore over mining rights in the Northern Cape.
Breytenbach has pleaded not guilty to 16 charges brought against her.
This would be the third chairperson for the hearing. The first, Barry Madolo, recused himself, followed by Sandile July in August after the NPA said it would apply for his removal.
The NPA argued his appointment would create a perception of bias because July's firm, Werksmans, had represented steel company ArcelorMittal SA.
Madolo recused himself after ruling that print media should be granted access to the hearing. The NPA said he had no authority to make such a decision.
