2012-03-01 11:50

Cape Town - A 34-year-old British tourist has been arrested in Table View, Cape Town, for possessing tik with an estimated street value of R2.5m, Western Cape police said on Thursday.

Lieutenant Colonel Andre Traut said the man was arrested at his storage facility in Potsdam road on Wednesday with nine kilograms of the drug.

"His activities have been under the spotlight of the police for some time," he said.

The man was here on a three-month tourist visa.

He would appear in Cape Town Magistrate's Court on Friday, Traut said.

When I take into account, how much damage is done to society, as a result of drugs, I can't help but consider, that China and Singapore have got the right attitude.

  • Multi - 2012-03-01 12:15

Give him the tik and send him to China.

  • Greg - 2012-03-01 12:19

Make him take it all himself... in one day.

      Marion - 2012-03-01 12:56

@Greg... that reminds me of when my dad caught my brothers and cousins, all teenagers, smoking. He gave them each a cigar and made them smoke it start to finish. They didn't much fancy smoking after that. Also, a kid I was in primary school with was caught with cigarettes and (I don't agree with this at all by the way) was made to actually eat them. He wasn't so lekker afterwards either.

      Juan - 2012-03-01 13:13

No he can save it for when he takes up his cell with Bubba.

  • John - 2012-03-01 12:26

If the British are coming here to do their spouses and ex's in, they may as well do drugs as well. Looks like SA is becoming a haven for UK scum..

  • Edward Serfontein - 2012-03-01 12:28

Good job on the bust! I wonder how many South Africans (especially young ones) are aware of the lethal effect of tik.

  • Marion - 2012-03-01 12:38

I find it interesting that he was only here on a three month tourist visa and they had been watching him for some time. Hope that they are watching plenty more and will nab them sooner rather than later. Pappa wag vir jou.

      Heiku - 2012-03-01 12:55

These agents need to be watched at all times Marion. We should mount webcams to their heads when they land at OR tambo

  • thandazile.selana1 - 2012-03-01 12:40

  • Mlungisi Khumalo Lindela - 2012-03-01 13:00

South Africa would in deed become a better place if police from every province worked efficiently as the Cape Town police

      Heiku - 2012-03-01 13:10

Or if we just ban these bloody agents. The true enemy of the nation.

  • Nicholas - 2012-03-01 13:15

He can consider himself lucky he was caught here. With our lax laws he's guaranteed to be going home soon. In some countries he would have got the bullet.

  • Chantal - 2012-03-01 13:22

Thank you Lord, one by one they will be caught, You don't sleep nor slumber!

  • Chez - 2012-03-01 13:29

I was just relieved it was not a South African again:) How on earth was he planning on getting 9kg's out the country? Man that takes a special kind of stupid. I was once offered R20 000 to fly to Amsterdam to collect or deliver crack. (Never bothered to ask for details). Ticket and hotel paid for. As a single mom I knew that is why they asked(targeted) me. naturally I said no. I would have had "drug traficker" written all over my face; I don't know how those guys do it.

  • Nigel - 2012-03-01 13:34

we need to change our laws, dealers, traffickers & mules should get life, no questions.

      Archie - 2012-03-01 13:55

you are to kind.Dealers to get death penalty, mules get 6 strokes a month with the heavy cane and 20 years.Drug syndicate members hang by the neck in public till dead. That way millions of souls will be saved,murders/robberies and most crime related to addiction will drop off the chart.these druggies cant think past their next fix,so kill the monster that feeds them.
