Brits man killed in robbery

2012-09-05 19:19

Johannesburg - A man was killed on Wednesday morning during a robbery at his home in Brits, North West police said.

Brigadier Thulani Ngubane said four people were believed to have been behind the attack.

"According to the wife, they were asleep when they heard strange sounds outside the house."

When the husband went to investigate one of the attackers shot him in his right leg. "[He] collapsed, and three more suspects emerged and entered the house."

The wife told police she locked herself in the bathroom while the men went through the house. She emerged later when there was silence.

"When [she] got out of the bathroom she found her husband in a pool of blood," said Ngubane.

Emergency workers declared him dead on the scene. It was suspected the man died after being struck with a shovel found next to his body.

The robbers fled with two rifles which had been in a safe, and a cellphone.
