Bronx killing: Cops seek man, 36

2012-02-10 16:01

Cape Town - Cape Town police are searching for a 36-year-old man to help in the investigation into the murder of the owner of one of Cape Town's best known gay nightclubs.

Bruno Bronn, 49, who owned the Bronx nightclub, was found dead by his domestic worker shortly before 09:00 on Tuesday morning.

"Sea Point police [are] requesting the assistance of the public in tracing 36-year-old John Frederick Coetzee who can assist in the investigation of a Green Point murder case," Warrant Officer November Filander said.

Bronn was found on his back on the floor with his hands tied with tape in front of him. He had marks around his neck. It was not known whether anything was taken from the house on Ocean View Drive.

The Bronx made news in 2006 when a security guard at the club was wounded after five shots were fired in a drive-by shooting in the early hours of the morning. At the time, Bronn denied the shooting had anything to do with the club.

The quality of most police officers is pathetic. They can't even write and read and most probably have no basic arithmetical knowledge. They also lack logic. This can be seen when they have to solve simple crimes. And most importantly, there is no sense of community service.

Hi Andre, I beg to differ. Besides the fact that all my encounters with cops have been quite decent, my sister's husband is a cop. I know first hand what they have to go through and what pressures they have to face and live with every single day. When last have you had to dodge bullets from an AK-47 When last did you have to face off with criminals who will shoot you without a second thought? Admittedly, in any profession you will find the bad eggs that just don't do anything, but there are also good ones and lots of them. Your broad generalisation of a few has now also painted the good men and woman who take pride in their work in a bad light which quite frankly was unnecessary and uncalled for.

My encounters with the SA police have always been extremely positive. They have a tough job, work under extreme pressure, still (mostly) friendly - I think they generally do their best. But in my experience, it is Justice and Correctional Services that are beyond pathetic. The chain is as strong as its weakest link, and that's where the "pap" falls onto the ground.

Yes, but Peter, it would help if a picture etc. was published of the guy. Then we as the public could assist.
