Brothel trial on hold
2003-08-11 17:03
Johannesburg - The case against Andrew Lionel Phillips, faced with various charges relating to his ownership of the upmarket brothel The Ranch in Johannesburg, has been delayed for another six months.
Phillips has been charged with living off the proceeds of prostitution, keeping a brothel and employing illegal aliens to satisfy clients' needs.
He has also been charged with instituting levies for each shift worked by the prostitutes at The Ranch, and fining the prostitutes when they did not comply with the rules.
Phillips has yet to plead to the charges.
Due to full court rolls, no regional court is available for the trial arising from the alleged activities at the now-closed Ranch and the Titty Twister clubs in Johannesburg's northern suburbs between 1995 and December 2000.
The case was postponed to January 2004.
Phillips' bail has been extended.
