Johannesburg - A Northern Cape man was found dead on Monday, apparently after being attacked by three bull terriers, on a farm near Jan Kempdorp, police said.

"Several paw prints were found around the place where the deceased was discovered," police spokesperson Sergio Kock said.

Daniel Mokae, a worker on the farm, was found lying face down at 07:20 on Monday by the farm owner's brother.

"The deceased was covered in blood. Both his ears were missing and his clothes were in tatters when the police arrived on the scene," said Kock.

Mokae had been employed to feed the livestock while the farm owner was out of town for the weekend, Kock said.

The dogs had been kept in locked kennels on the farm.

Police would conduct a post mortem to determine the cause of death.

An inquest docket had been opened.
