Bulls player 'pulled off cop'

Cape Town – The Blue Bulls rugby player who was arrested allegedly in connection with the death of a Metro cop was still on top of the deceased when cops responded to a complaint of assault in Pretoria, a police spokesperson has said.

"The suspect was on top of the deceased when police arrived on the scene," Captain Katlego Mogale told News24.

Mogale said the metro cop was in his "full uniform" at the time of the incident.

"He was pulled off and an ambulance was called," she said.

The suspect was arrested and is currently at the Sunnyside police station and a case of murder is being investigated, she said.

Netcare911 spokesperson Chris Botha told News24 that when paramedics arrived on the scene the deceased was already dead.

"He had a massive injury to the head. I don't know what they used (to hit him)," he said.

Botha said there was blood on the road where the body was lying. "It looks like his head hit the tar road."

The incident happened on Schoeman Street in Hatfield, Pretoria in the early hours of Friday.
