Johannesburg - The burned body of an unknown man was found in a field in Olifantsfontein near Pretoria on Monday, Gauteng police said.
Captain Manyadza Ralidzhivha said the body was found by passers-by, who immediately alerted the police.
The body of the man, thought to be aged between 24 and 35, was found lying naked between the Ulrich Seats company and the R562 road.
A five litre container was next to the body and some petrol was found in it.
Ralidzhivha said: "It seems the person was assaulted... and later burnt."
Police were appealing to the public for information on the incident.
Meanwhile, another body burned beyond recognition was found in a field in Germiston, police said.
Captain Steady Nawa said the discovery was made by a passer-by around 07:00.
Police were unable to establish the race or gender of the person due to the severity of the burns.
Preliminary investigations indicated the victim was killed elsewhere and then dumped in the area and set alight, Nawa said.
Anyone with information can contact the investigating officer, Inspector Noah Mnisi on 011-871-5495 or 076-689-9942.
