Durban - A Durban businessman has been arrested for possession of child pornography, KwaZulu-Natal police said on Wednesday afternoon.
"The suspect was found in possession of images on his cellphone of pupils from a local school engaged in sexual acts," said spokesperson Senior Superintendent Jay Naicker.
The 31-year-old businessman from Phoenix had been charged in terms of the Films and Publications Act and would appear in the Verulam Magistrate's Court on Wednesday, Naicker said.
"We wish to issue a stern warning to members of the public who may be in possession of these images to immediately delete (them) from their cellphones and refrain from further distributing these images."
Naicker said the images had been "widely distributed".
"No person may be in possession of these images and, irrespective of their profession, they will be charged for being in possession of child pornography."
Anyone who knew of people who were in possession of child pornography was asked to report it to their local police station or Crime Stop on 08600-10111.
