Johannesburg - Twenty-two people were arrested and R15m
worth of counterfeit goods confiscated during roadblocks and raids in Gauteng
over the weekend.
Two stolen vehicles, a motorbike, a rifle with three boxes
of ammunition, and drugs were also confiscated, police spokesperson Lieutenant
Colonel Lungelo Dlamini said on Monday.
Traffic fines totalling R260 000 were issued over the
weekend.
The roadblocks were held on all major highways including
N1-Grasmere/Carousel toll gates, N3, N14 and R59.
Raids were conducted in the Johannesburg city centre, near
Park Station, where most of the counterfeit goods and DVDs were seized.
"These goods were intended to be sold to people
boarding taxis and going on holidays to various destinations."
Eight people were arrested for possession of drugs, six for
illegal immigration, four for drinking in public, two for driving without
licences and two for fraud and possession of a stolen motorbike.
