Byleveld to look into murder

2012-04-21 12:40

Johannesburg - Retired crack detective Piet Byleveld has been asked to help with an investigation into the murder of former cricketer Louis Vorster, Beeld newspaper reported on Saturday.

Byleveld said Protea's cricketer, Albie Morkel, had asked him to do so.

"If people ask me I will always help," Byleveld was quoted as saying.

"At the moment I am still in Cape Town but will return to Gauteng on Monday when I will look at the details of the matter." The publication said Morkel could not be reached for comment,

Vorster was shot dead in his car at a filling station next to the N14 between Krugersdorp and Pretoria earlier in the week.

A package on the seat next to him was taken after the shooting.

Voster reportedly had thousands of rands in cash with him, apparently to buy two generators valued at R150 000.

Crime investigation should have been privatised (and in some instances denationalised) 20 years ago.

If Piet can't do it....nobody can

  • Ryan - 2012-04-21 14:46

Very decent Albie! In our country..incomitence and lack of education of police people allow our loved ones to perish without revenge or justice. We should employ the most intelligent people from schools to head up our police force, and pay them well. Or is safety and security not a priority. May this killer be caught, and sentenced to death ( in a fair world)

I smell a rat here, someone might have known that he is carrying cash.

      Atholl - 2012-04-21 15:32

There must either be a connection between : the cash .. when was it drawn .. you have to give the bank notice to draw 150k .. why was the car not taken the transaction .. who sold the generator .. is there a link between the seller & the crime If Mr Vorster's path had been intervened 1 or 2 hrs later then he may not have had the cash with him. The petrol station Surveillance camera could show info ... of maybe 5 mins before when the attackers would have 'checked' (snooped) to see if the money was in the car.
