Johannesburg - Police are looking for a couple targeting matriculants who are seeking employment, and offering them fake jobs in exchange for cash, Cape Town police said on Tuesday.
"The alleged fraudsters placed advertisements in local newspapers during early 2007 targeting matrics who were seeking employment," said Superintendent Andre Traut.
He said they offered career opportunities in Occupational Therapy, Physiotherapy, Dental Care and Au Pairing.
The advert said a fee of R2 000 to register was required but the jobs and tuition would never materialise. The couple would then disappear with their victims' money.
"They are currently being investigated by the Commercial Branch in the Western Cape on 33 cases of fraud, but we have reason to believe that this figure could increase once victims learn of this investigation."
Members of the public who have fallen victim to the fraudsters are requested to contact Captain Tracey Delport of the Commercial Branch.
