Cape Town - The City of Cape Town has developed an "integrated action plan" to keep visitors safe, mayoral committee member for tourism Simon Grindrod said on Wednesday.
He said the plan aimed to create a secure environment, and develop capacity that could react quickly and effectively to incidents.
"Cape Town should attract three million visitors a year by 2010," he said.
"Visitor safety and support is one of the key issues impacting on sustainable tourism."
Authorities have been struggling to deal with a series of muggings on Table Mountain, many of them involving tourists.
Grindrod said a network had been set up to respond to incidents "in an integrated manner".
The main partners include the provincial tourism department, Cape Town Tourism, the city's protection and emergency services, the traffic department, tourism agencies and transport providers.
