CT pupil defecated on

2003-11-07 21:24

Cape Town - A grade nine pupil from Cape Town said a white schoolmate, her boyfriend and her mother assaulted her, shouted racial insults and covered her face with faeces in full view of other pupils, SABC television news reported on Friday.

Sixteen-year-old Nosipho Mkhize from Edgemead High School said the incident occurred shortly after Sharon Ferreira and her daughter's boyfriend went to the school.

According to the report, Mkhiza said Ferreira approached another girl about her child being abused or bullied.

"We said you cannot verbally abuse the child like this. She said 'fuck off, you black kaffir, you don't belong to this school. You should go back to your black township.'"

Mkhiza said the mother, daughter and daughter's boyfriend then started hitting her.

"They took me by the hair, they pulled it out and dragged me to the tennis court. It was four of them. They were beating me. Three of them were beating me up and they were kicking me, telling me I was a black bitch and I don't belong here. The woman took out her car keys and stabbed me all over my face. The child sat down on me. She released her faeces all over me."

Shouts for help ignored

Nosipho's shouts for help were apparently ignored.

The Mkhize family said the school principal Malcolm Venter has not shown any concern and appeared only to be interested in the Ferreiras' side of the story.

The two parties met on Friday morning.

The Ferreiras and the school principal refused to comment.

The Mkhizes are willing to take the case to the highest court in the land to ensure that justice is done.

Meanwhile the head pupil of Edgmead High School, Geordin Hill-Lewis, has expressed shock and regret at an attack at the school.

Hill-Lewis's letter was included in a circular issued to parents by the school.

Hill-Lewis said it was an isolated incident and does not reflect the sentiments of the school.

She said it saddened her to realise that some people have not yet grasped the ideals of the new South Africa.
