Cape Town inmates accused of murder

2012-06-26 16:34
Johannesburg - The bail application of two prisoners accused of their cellmate's murder has been rescheduled for July 19, the Bellville District Court agreed on Tuesday.

Daniel Dyosi, 40, and Sipho Mhlanga, 29, were not asked to plead when they appeared briefly before Magistrate Jannie Kotze.

It was their third appearance.

Both men were to have brought a bail application during their second appearance on May 10, but abandoned it.

Legal aid defence attorney V Frieslaar said she had instructions to re-schedule the abandoned bail application for July 19.

Prosecutor A Ngiba told the court the case had been referred to the Western Cape directorate for public prosecutions to decide whether to prosecute the two men, and, if so, in which court.

No decision had yet been taken. He said the results of forensic tests, including the DNA of both men, were not yet available.

The men are accused of the murder of airport freight clerk Eben Meyer, who had been arrested for drunk and disorderly behaviour on April 20.

He was locked up with them in the cell, and his body was found the next morning.
