Cape Town - A Cape Town man has appeared in the Khayelitsha Magistrate's
Court for the murder of a 5-year-old girl over Christmas, it was reported on
Tuesday.
Prosecutors told the court on Monday that Charles "Bhuti"
Makgetha, 39, had made a statement detailing how he killed Lilitha Mgwebi, the
Daily Voice reported.
"The accused made a confession whereby he admitted that he murdered and
raped the victim. The State is therefore opposing bail," prosecutor Phelan
Stuurman said.
Makgetha apparently told his legal aid lawyer to refuse bail because he did
not want to waste the court's time and wanted a conviction so he could start
serving his sentence.
The matter was postponed to 28 January for investigation.
Lilitha was last seen playing with friends outside her Greenpoint home.
Her decomposed body was found covered in a blanket in a neighbouring shack last
Tuesday.
Makgetha had apparently been looking after the shack.
