Cape Town -  A man has been arrested in Brooklyn, Cape Town, for allegedly kidnapping and exploiting two women, the city's vice squad said on Wednesday.

Spokesperson Nathan Ladegourdie said the man had been charged with counts under the Sexual Offences Act and with kidnapping and assault.

He was arrested on Tuesday at a house where two women, originally from Johannesburg, were being held against their will.

He apparently sexually exploited them for money and did not feed them.

"The women were also forced by their captors to take drugs, which included dagga and rocks [crack]," Ladegourdie said.

They were being kept in a place of safety pending further investigations.

The vice squad was looking for a second person in connection with the crimes.

Ladegourdie said the case had been handed over to the Hawks' human trafficking task team.
