Cape Town - A man was shot and wounded during a robbery in Somerset West on Monday morning, Western Cape police said.

The man and a woman were on their way to deposit money at a bank when they were approached by two armed men in Main Road, Lieutenant Colonel Andre Traut said.

He said they shot the man, took the undisclosed amount of money and fled on foot.

They had yet to be arrested. A robbery and attempted murder case was being investigated.

ER24 spokesperson Russel Meiring said the man had a gunshot wound to the abdomen. He was taken to hospital.
