Cape Town rapist gets life in jail

Johannesburg - A man convicted of raping 11 girls and murdering another was sentenced to 11 life terms in prison by the Western Cape High Court on Monday.

"Soyisiso Nofemele, 26, was found guilty of 12 abductions, 11 rapes and one murder," National Prosecuting Authority spokesperson Eric Ntabazalila said.

Nofemele was sentenced to an additional 10 years in prison for the abduction of one of the girls.

"Nofemele was chased and caught by residents before he could rape the girl," Ntabazalila said.

He said Nofemele targeted children between the ages of two and seven in Khayelitsha.

"He lured his victims by promising them sweets and chips."

Menawhile, in Limpopo, a man accused of raping 10 schoolboys appeared in the Mankweng Regional Court on Monday, Limpopo police said.

The matter was postponed to 13 December for the trial to start, Constable Moses Molepo said.

The man, a security guard, is accused of raping 10 boys, aged between eight and 10, during 2010 and 2011.

He was arrested last year and had been in custody since then.

"It is believed the man lured the boys, one by one, into bushes to search for domestic animals. He would then demand sex from the boy in the bushes."

He remain in custody.v
