Cape Town – A suspect in the shooting of a motorist at the Engen garage in Orange Street in Gardens is set to appear in the Cape Town Magistrate's court on Monday on a murder charge, a report says.

According to the Weekend Argus, the suspect, an off-duty security guard, shot and killed a motorist at the busy city petrol station and appeared composed after the shooting.

The motive for the shooting remained unclear, although witnesses claimed they saw the 48-year-old security guard and the 24-year-old victim, Moegamat Toufiq Joseph, arguing in the parking lot.

The sound of the gunshot sent customers screaming and running from the petrol station’s shop and into the danger zone of the parking lot, the report said.

A witness told News24 on Saturday that she heard a gunshot then saw a man shoot another who was sitting in a black VW Golf car.

"The man in the car was shot three times", the witness said.

Joseph died at the scene.
