Cape Town - A Cape Town high school pupil has described how she was kidnapped from her front door and bundled into the back of a bakkie, but managed to escape two hours later.

Die Burger reported that the 16-year-old Plumstead High School pupil was abducted as she left her Grassy Park home at 08:00 on Monday morning.

"I was going to school and busy closing the front door when someone attacked me from behind. The person tried to suffocate me, but I fought back," she said.

The teenager, who cannot be named because of her age, said she was forced into the back of a white bakkie and lost consciousness, but when she woke up she immediately called her mother on her cellphone.

She then kicked against the sides of the bakkie, which resulted in one of the kidnappers getting out to try and calm her down. She was then moved to the front cab, and managed to draw the attention of two bystanders in Bree Street.

"They could see that I was crying and I hit the windshield."

The bystanders approached the abductors and she managed to escape, approaching a nearby shop owner who called the police. The two men then escaped.

Her mother told Die Burger she suspects the teenager was targeted, as they had recently received an anonymous letter threatening her.

A provincial police spokesperson told the Cape Argus that a helicopter search was launched after the mother alerted them to the kidnapping, but the bakkie was not found.

No arrests have been made, and the matter is being investigated.
