Cape Town vice squad fines sex workers

Johannesburg - Fines amounting to R12 500 have been issued to sex workers in Cape Town, the city's vice squad said on Monday.

Assistant chief Nathan Ladegourdie said spot fines were issued to sex workers and new sex workers were profiled in Sea Point, Green Point, Cape Town and Wynberg in an operation over the weekend.

The unit helped two women - one a minor - who had been forced into the industry by foreign nationals by taking them to places of safety, Ladegourdie said.

In Wynberg, a sex worker was arrested for being in possession of three units of tik, he said.

And the cost of the fines - as a business expense in the generation of income - will be passed on to the client.

I guess they have to try and tax the industry somehow LOL

We don't like what you two consenting adults are doing, so you must give us money! With exception to the minor and the other women who wanted out, obviously. Kudos to the cops for assisting them.

sounds like a protection racket to me

Just wondering how these sex-workers are going to get the dough to pay the fines. Maybe like good artisans they will revert to their trade.

Legalize prostitution, let them do their work in designated areas, enforce regular health check ups, and lock up the pimps. Its a far better solution.

      Anonymous Thinker - 2011-05-23 20:56

Sex workers have been trying to do that for years Anton. They have a very solid plan drawn up.

So all the claims are true, the DA are impeding service delivery.

What's wrong with "prostitute"? It's much older and it sounds far classier than "sex worker". I'd say a gynaecologist is a "sex worker"!

Aaaah damn, this probably means that they are going to have to increase their rates. Snap!

HELLO.....there are real crimes out there that maybe the Police should try and solve without making a total hash of them. Two policemen killed in line on Sunday in the Cape. Surely all those officers involved in this "clamp down" could have been more proactive in catching these killers? We have such major crime issues that start at government and this is what makes News24 Headlines........SAD

Must be a Policeman's Ball around the corner - I forgot - the Police don't have balls.......they should rather go and catch some real criminals the lazy buggers.
