Cape Town woman dies in Lion's Head fall

2012-08-27 09:02

Cape Town - A Cape Town runner who fell to her death on Lion's Head had apparently strayed from demarcated paths, it was reported on Monday.

The Cape Times reported that Catherine Joubert, 27, of Sea Point, had been running with a friend on Friday afternoon when they decided to go "bundu-bashing".

A rescuer, who declined to be named as she was not meant to speak to the media, reportedly told the newspaper that Joubert had fallen from a section of the peak facing the city.

They had used an old track and Joubert somehow slipped and fell.

Emergency medical services spokesperson Angelique Jordaan told the newspaper it seemed the woman had been climbing rocks, away from the trail, when she slipped and fell about 20m.

According to the Mountain Club of SA, most of its rescues were on Lion's Head and Platteklip Gorge.

I am mortified to read the comments posted below. This was a very special lady, who was loved by all that knew her. Everyone!! One day all of you will experience the loss that we have experienced this weekend. I only hope that your loss is treated with a bit more dignity. Shame on all of you.
