Cape Town woman dies in gang crossfire
Johannesburg - A woman was shot dead in crossfire in an apparent gang fight in Hanover Park, Cape Town, on Monday, police said.
"At 09:45 an unknown woman was killed in crossfire in what is believed to have been a shoot-out between two gangs," Lieutenant Colonel Andre Traut said.
He said no arrests had been made by mid-afternoon on Monday but a murder docket had been opened.
Western Cape Community Safety MEC Dan Plato said it was believed the woman was a 24-year-old mother of two.
"I am deeply saddened by the death this morning of a young woman in Hanover Park... and wish to extend my deepest condolences to the woman's family and friends," he said.
Plato urged government to set up specialised police units to deal with gangs, drugs, and alcohol in the Western Cape.
