Cape Town - Seychelles police are investigating the disappearance of a Cape Town yachtsman at sea, it was reported on Monday.

The Cape Times reported that Sean Terry, 48, departed from the Maldives on May 13 and was apparently lost overboard before the yacht arrived at an island off the Seychelles in June.

Judith Middleton, a spokesperson for his family, said Terry had been travelling with sole crew member Stefan Pokorny.

Pokorny had since been questioned by police ahead of the matter being heard in court this month. It was unclear whether he was facing any charges.

Middleton said Terry's yacht arrived at Cotivy island on June 25 with only Pokorny on board.

"Terry was reported missing, having been lost overboard some days previously," she said.

Terry was an experienced yachtsman and skipper who had been completing the last leg of circumnavigating the globe.

The family has set up a Facebook page in an attempt to get more information on Terry's disappearance.
